Lyons 66, Downers Grove North 52: Phil Palella scored 16 points, Chris Cabaj 15 and Dennis Carroll and Graham Alexa 12 apiece as Lyons (18-5, 10-0) clinched its second straight West Suburban Silver title.
“I don’t know what it’s like to win a state championship, but I can tell you that winning the conference title is an incredible feeling,” said first-year Lyons coach David Ray. “This is a heck of a conference to win, but this is just one of our goals.”
Downers (11-11, 3-7) was led by John Lackaff’s 18 points and Dan Fellows’ 16.
Glenbrook North 61, Naperville Central 57: Joe Hein had 21 points and nine rebounds and Michael Downes added 17 points as No. 4 Glenbrook North (22-1) rebounded from its first loss Friday night.
Stu Katz hit a four-point play with 5:24 left to give Glenbrook its first lead, 51-50. Freshman Peter Carroll hit a pair of free throws with :24 left to put Glenbrook ahead 59-57. Glenbrook was 15 of 18 from the free throw line, including 7 of 8 in the fourth quarter.
“I’m proud of our response without (Billy) Donlon,” said Glenbrook coach Brian James, who chose to rest his star player’s sore ankle. “It’s almost like having a whole new team out there without him because he handles the ball for us so much.”
Napervile Central (12-10) was paced by Pat Collins’ 20 points.
Benet 48, Marian Catholic 43: Benet (18-3, 10-0) clinched the East Suburban Catholic title behind Ben Widner’s 13 points and Sean Morrow’s 11.
Lemont 73, Yorkville 70: Lemont’s Jason Taylor (17 points) hit four three-pointers in the last minute of the non-conference game. Yorkville guard Pat Keller led all scorers with 35 points, including six threes.
