Mother McAuley 78, Marshall 55: No. 13 Mother McAuley (18-5) notched its first win over Marshall in three years behind Anne McDonald (19 points, seven rebounds), who led three players in double figures.
Marshall coach Dorothy Gaters left the gymnasium and took her team with her when she mistook a bench technical as her second technical, causing an approximate 12-minute delay of the game.
McAuley Athletic Director Nancy Pedersen intervened, discussing matters with officals Bill Thomas and Al Reyus and Gaters, who refused to comment. Gaters and her team eventually returned, and McAuley outscored Marshall 14-8 to close the first half.
“It took a lot for us to stay on top and not be cold when we came back from the delay,” said McAuley coach Barbara Edwards. “We’re playing well, and we’re moving in the right direction.”
Sabrina Minter led Marshall with 12.
