A Lake County judge said Wednesday he will decide during the trial of Aldwin McNeal whether his brother Tyron McNeal will be granted immunity to testify at Aldwin McNeal’s trial this month in the double slaying April 7, 1994, at Maude’s Pizza in Waukegan.
Judge Raymond McKoski said that when Tyron McNeal takes the stand at his brother’s trial, the judge will hear arguments from Tyron McNeal’s attorney, Henry Lazzaro, and Assistant State’s Attorneys George Strickland and Steve McCollum on the issue of immunity.
The prosecutors want to grant Tyron McNeal immunity so he can relate a conversation with his brother in which Aldwin McNeal allegedly admitted killing two people. McNeal, 28, is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 23 in the slayings of Perry Austin, 52, and Cory Gerlach, 28, manager of Maude’s.
