Lake County sheriff’s police were searching Tuesday for suspects in the theft of a $4,000 bronze statue from a village store.
The 150-pound statue, which depicts a dragon emerging from an eggshell, was taken around 5 a.m. Friday from Rickie’s, at 239 RP Coffin Rd., Sheriff’s Detective Drew Pranke said.
According to Pranke, access to the store was gained by climbing over a railing onto a second-floor ledge, then by smashing out a window. The suspects then went down to the first floor, where they took the statue, some Victorian costume jewelry and $200 cash from a cash box located near the store’s register, Pranke said.
Most of the costume jewelry was recovered at the scene, Pranke said.

The suspects then smashed a hole through the second floor wall and entered Rocks & Things, a jewelry store. As they entered the store, an alarm sounded and the burglars fled, Pranke said.
