The city will spend about $900,000 more in general operating expenses next year, mainly by adding three police officers and three firefighters to the payroll, according to the proposed 1995 budget.

In addition to boosting the city’s police and fire personnel, the budget includes new funds to hire two public works employees and a community service officer for the Police Department.

Terry Klein, finance director, said the city expects to spend $7.5 million in the general corporate fund next year. The general fund budget in 1994 is $6.6 million.

Klein said the budget includes an extra $100,000 to cover additional expenses when the City Council expands to 14 aldermen from 10 after April’s election.

The city is proposing to collect $2.56 million in property taxes next year, compared with $2.39 million it levied this year.
