Gordon Tech didn’t score its first points Friday against Fenwick until there were 3 minutes 46 seconds left in the first quarter. Fenwick didn’t get a second-quarter field goal until there were :15 left in the half.

Fenwick’s Fred Greif missed the front end of a one-and-one with :09 left, then Gordon’s Jeff Kafka missed a 17-footer and the rebound went to Greif.

Despite it all, Fenwick (5-0, 2-0) prevailed 56-54 in the Catholic League behind 22 points from freshman Corey Maggette, who scored seven fourth-quarter points.

“He (Maggette) is a very mature kid, and it really carries over to our other players, as was evidenced by his performance in the fourth quarter,” said Fenwick coach John Quinn. “We’re a young team. We have a long way to go. But we’ve been able to find a way to win.”

Lamont Scott led Gordon (2-4, 1-1) with 22 points and nine rebounds; Kafka added 14 points.

Batavia 74, Kaneland 72: Jeff Beetham had 20 points and seven assists as Batavia (4-2, 2-1) held off Kaneland (7-1, 2-1) in the Little Seven.

IMSA 74, Paw Paw 46: Steve Gebhart scored 17 points and Joe Steele added 16 points and 13 rebounds as IMSA improved to 4-1.

Minooka 57, Morris 39: Rob Stenzel scored 14 points, Tim Stevens added 13 points and six assists and Mark Prosise 10 rebounds for Minooka (6-1, 2-1) in the Little Seven.

Yorkville 52, Geneva 43: Jake Nauman scored 16 points as Yorkville (4-3, 1-3) prevailed in the Little Seven.

Loyola 75, St. Martin de Pores 60: Brian Johnson’s 18 points and Matt Switski’s 17 paced Loyola (3-2, 3-0) in the Catholic League. St. Martin’s Douglas Rogers had 26.

St. Laurence 56, St. Ignatius 49: Mike Flannery’s 21 points helped St. Laurence (3-3, 1-1) prevail in the Catholic League.

Timothy Christian 76, Luther North 72: Ben VanDyke scored 25 points, Ken Keizer had 21 and Dave Deters 15 for Timothy (5-1, 2-0) in the Private School League. Brian Lindgren (20 points) and Jason VanPuymbroeck (19) paced Luther North (2-4, 0-2).

Aurora Christian 80, Providence 64: Providence gave away three first-half leads as Aurora improved to 5-0 with the non-conference win. Joe Mann led the Eagles with 20 points and eight rebounds. Josh Wayne added 16 points and 12 boards. The Eagles have won 60 straight at home.

Riverside-Brookfield 58, Ridgewood 32: John Rocco scored 14 points and Kevin Movak 13 for R-B (2-4, 1-1) in the Southwest Suburban rout.

Westmont 72, Lemont 71: Dunston Simpson scored 18 points, Dwayne Washington 17 and Dipin Arora 15 for Westmont (2-3, 1-1) in the Southwest Suburban. Matt Markiewicz led Lemont with 19 points.

West Chicago 47, Glenbard East 46: Tony Berg hit a turnaround jumper from the free-throw line with :02 left to lead West Chicago (2-3, 1-1) in the DuPage Valley. Dan Dibble led West Chicago with 22 points. Brian Hargreaves’ 19 led Glenbard.

Benet 48, Marian Catholic 39: Andy Garrett scored 14 points and Dave Steward added 12 as Benet (5-1, 2-0) christened its new gym with an East Suburban Catholic victory.

Montini 81, Immaculate Conception 49: Scott Sobkowiak scored 19 points and Joe Bolduc 16 for Montini (5-1, 1-1) in the Suburban Catholic. IC (0-6, 0-2) was led by John McHugh’s 16.

Nazareth 59, Wheaton Christian 51: Shannon Swilley scored 15 points and John Kucera had 14 as Nazareth (3-2) prevailed in non-conference action.
