Rachel Ross, a 19-year-old former honor student from Palatine, spent 93 days in jail after she and several others were charged with vandalizing a Hoffman Estates home while its owners were on vacation.
When she appeared along with three co-defendants before Cook County Circuit Judge Sam Amirante one week ago, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years probation.
But on the same day she was released from Cook County Jail, Ross immediately violated the stringent terms of her probation by leaving home, authorities said.
Last Friday, she was sent back to Cook County Jail, prosecutors said.
On Tuesday, Ross again appeared before Judge Amirante and was conditionally sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Amirante ordered that Ross spend the first 180 days of her sentence in one of the state’s prisoner boot camps.
Ross, three other teenagers, a 21-year-old man, and a juvenile all pleaded guilty to camping out in the home of George and Catherine Korinek for several days in July while the family was vacationing in Colorado. In what authorities said was a drug- and alcohol-induced rampage, the youths destroyed nearly every room of the home, causing more than $100,000 in damage.
