Five firefighters were treated at a local hospital Tuesday after they were hit by a flash of heat while battling a blaze in the basement of a home.
The firefighters were going into the basement, where the fire started at the home, 1632 Clyde Drive, when a burst of heat pushed them back, fire officials said.
They waited a few minutes, then went back down to extinguish the blaze. Afterward, they were treated at Edward Hospital in Naperville and released.
A woman who was in the two-story home when the fire started at 8:55 a.m. escaped without injury, said Assistant Fire Chief Dan Voiland.
The fire damaged much of the basement and caused smoke damage throughout the home, fire officials said. Damage was estimated at more than $50,000. The cause was not known.
