A gunman abducted two Ingleside women Wednesday, forcing them to drive him to a remote area of central McHenry County and tying them to a tree before driving off in their luxury car, authorities said.

The gunman approached a 47-year-old woman shortly before noon Wednesday as she was about to put her briefcase into her 1994 Lincoln Mark VII, parked in her garage on Stanton Point Road, according to Lake County sheriff’s police Lt. Chester Iwan.

The assailant, who was in his early 20s, forced the woman back inside her home, where he ordered the woman’s 27-year-old housekeeper out of the house, Iwan said.

The gunman hopped in the back seat and ordered the woman to drive while her housekeeper sat beside her, police said.

As the three drove along Illinois Highway 59, police said, the man spotted a rope lying beside a house. He ordered the driver to turn around and go back to the house.

After grabbing the rope, the man jumped back into the back seat and ordered the driver to continue heading toward McHenry County.

At a farm at Illinois Highway 173 and Seeman Road, just east of Hebron, the gunman ordered the driver to pull over, according to McHenry County Undersheriff Les Kottke.

There, he tied the two women to a tree and drove off, Kottke said. After a short time, the women broke free and ran to a nearby house, where they called police.

The assailant was described as a white man in his early 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with some facial hair and shoulder-length brown hair. He was wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans.

Police were also looking for the white Lincoln with Illinois license plates “FLY 78.”

Police declined to identify the women.
