With continuing debate over the need for a new juvenile detention facility, DuPage County Board member Olivia Gow (R-Elmhhurst) has scheduled a town meeting Wednesday on juvenile-crime and detention issues.
The forum “Why Are We Locking Up Our Kids?” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Elmhurst City Hall, York and 3rd Streets. Speakers will include County Judge Robert Byrne; Jane Peerson, director of probation for the county; and Patricia McGrath, superintendent of the DuPage Youth Home.
In August, County Board members rejected a referendum proposal that would have asked voters to raise property taxes to build a juvenile detention center.
