A 24-year-old North Chicago man has been convicted in the slaying last February of a Wisconsin man during a drug deal.

Christopher Garner, of 1116 Park Ave., North Chicago, was convicted late Wednesday by a jury in Lake County court in the slaying of Robert Favia, 28, of Trevor, Wis.

Authorities said that Favia was shot by Garner during a drug deal that turned into a robbery, then a murder.

According to Assistant State’s Atty. Michael Mermel, Favia was trying to trade a Nintendo game for some cocaine when Garner shot him.

Earlier this year, a 14-year-old accomplice of Garner’s had been convicted of attempted delivery of a controlled substance in connection with the incident. He served a term of six months probation, said Mermel, who prosecuted the case with Assistant State’s Atty. Jacqueline Slana.

Sentencing was set for Oct. 26 before Judge Charles Scott.
