Firefighters were called to the Commonwealth Edison Co. nuclear power plant in Zion to help extinguish a minor fire in a service building, a utility spokesman confirmed Thursday.
The fire began at 3:40 p.m. on the sixth floor of the building, in the auditorium area, utility spokesman Sam Falcona said. The fire began when a fluorescent lamp ignited, and was extinguished by plant personnel by 3:45 p.m., Falcona said.
Zion firefighters were called at 3:51 p.m., when the lighting fixture caught fire again, Falcona said.
The second time, the fire was put out in about a minute, Falcona said. He said no injuries were reported.
