The action film “Timecop” remained in first place at the box office while “Terminal Velocity” debuted strong enough to take second. “Quiz Show” performed well in its initial weekend of national release but couldn’t surpass “Forrest Gump.”
“Timecop’s” $8.2 million haul was padded by Saturday sneak previews for “The River Wild” also produced by Universal Pictures. Income from sneaks are added to the films with which they play.
The weekend’s top 20 films according to Exhibitor Relations Co., with the Sept. 23-25 gross, number of North American theater locations, average gross and number of weeks in release. Figures are based on studio estimates.
