Felipe A. “Tony” Reyes, named this month to fill a seat on the DuPage Airport Authority board, has asked that his nomination be temporarily withdrawn.

Reyes, 40, president of the Winfield Elementary School District 34 board, made the request in a letter Monday to outgoing County Board Chairman Aldo Botti. Reyes’ appointment cleared a County Board committee two weeks ago and was to come before the full board Tuesday.

Botti, whose attempts to make changes on the airport board have been generally thwarted by the County Board, said Reyes’ decision was political.

But Reyes said that though he had expressed interest nearly a year ago in filling a vacancy on the airport board, the appointment came up suddenly when he is reluctant to leave his duties as school board president. Reyes would have to resign from the school board if he joined the airport board.
