Whirlwind Performance Company, a Chicago arts education group, received a grant of $135,000 over three years from the National Endowment for Arts to continue working with two Chicago public schools, Pulaski Community Academy and Banneker Elementary School. It is one of seven winners nationwide (and the only one from Illinois) of the NEA Arts Plus awards.

With help from local artists, Whirlwind is trying to integrate the arts into the two schools’ general curriculum. Whirlwind-Pulaski-Banneker is one of 13 Chicago arts education partnerships receiving support from corporate and private funders led by Marshall Field & Co.
