A man awaiting trial in Lake County Jail for two armed robberies in the county has been charged with murder in his hometown in Kentucky, authorities said Monday.
Michael L. Anderson, 18, of Owensboro, Ky., was charged with capital murder in a warrant issued Saturday, police said.

Anderson is charged in the stabbing death of an 85-year-old man on July 14 in the Owensboro apartment building where they both lived, said Owensboro police Capt. Larry Wethington.
The murder charge resulted from jailhouse statements by Anderson on Friday to Lake County sheriff’s police and on Saturday to Owensboro investigators, police said.
Anderson will probably first stand trial for two counts of armed robbery in Lake County and then be sent to Kentucky to stand trial for murder, said Lake County State’s Atty. Michael Waller.
“It was a mutual decision” of Illinois and Kentucky authorities, Waller said. “If the Kentucky prosecutor felt strongly about prosecuting first, we would have let them. But our courts move quicker here, and the feeling is that these cases can be resolved in a speedy manner.”
Anderson was arrested last week in Gurnee after a car chase and was charged with armed robberies in Lake Villa and Gurnee. Wethington said Anderson was awaiting a trial on an armed robbery charge in Owensboro at the time.
Anderson made his statement because “he said he realized he’d never see daylight again with all the charges against him,” Wethington said.
