A 22-year-old Chicago man was indicted Wednesday on one count of attempted murder for allegedly shooting a man after an argument outside the Interlude Apartment Complex in Hoffman Estates.

A grand jury returned an indictment against Esteban Munoz Acevedo in connection with the Aug. 14 shooting of Clifford Davenport Sr., 19, of the 700 block of Salem Drive, Hoffman Estates.

Davenport was shot twice in the stomach and once in the side after he tried to break up an argument between Acevedo and another man, police said. He was treated for his injuries at Hoffman Estates Medical Center and has since been released.

The argument began after Acevedo, who was visiting friends at the apartment complex, got angry when a 7-year-old boy struck his car with a rock, police said. The boy ran to his parents, who live in the complex, and Acevedo allegedly followed him.

The parents, Davenport and the other man began arguing, police said. When the boy’s parents went to call the police, the argument between Acevedo and the other man got heated, and Davenport tried to prevent a fight between the two, police said.

Acevedo was arrested two weeks after the shooting in an Elk Grove Village motel. He is being held on $1 million bond.
