Village staff members could earn extra money by using their creativity, officials said.
In an effort to engender new cost-saving ideas, trustees agreed last week to allocate $12,000 annually toward a reward system for employees who come up with the best time- and money-saving ideas.

The best idea among supervisory staff members will win $2,500, second place will win $2,000 and third place will win $1,500. Non-supervisory employees will be eligible for similar prizes, although there will be more prizes awarded in smaller increments, trustees said.
Awards will be given only to those employees whose ideas save the same amount of prize money; if an employee’s idea saves $2,500 or more, they will be eligible for a $2,500 prize.
Prize amounts can be increased at the Village Board’s discretion.
Ideas must be submitted to Village Manager Raymond Botch by Feb. 28 annually to be considered for the prizes, officials said.
Botch will review the suggestions and pass eligible applications to trustees.
