The Chicago Opera Theater said it will perform downtown at De Paul University’s Merle Reskin Theater in 1995 and will push the start of its two-opera season back to June from April. The company said it continues to rebound from its 1993 cash crisis, having ended fiscal 1994 debt-free and at break-even. The opera said it received a challenge grant of $700,000 over three years from some board members and outside patrons. Under the grant’s terms, the rest of the board must raise $400,000 in 1995 and another $300,000 by 1997. Between June 2 and July 1, the opera will perform Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land” and Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” In 1994, the opera performed in April and May at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave.
