Bond was set at $20,000 Sunday for a South Elgin man charged with possession of explosives and incendiary devices, unlawful use of a firearm, and unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition and fireworks, authorities said.

Robert Nesler, 33, of 1056 Manchester Ct., was being held at Kane County Jail Sunday.

Nesler was arrested Saturday after South Elgin police, assisted by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and the Kane County Bomb Squad, conducted a search of his apartment at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and found what appeared to be a homemade bomb, police said. The device was removed and deactivated, police said.

Police also found bullets, fireworks, a can of black powder, fuse material and literature detailing how to make bombs.
