Police on Wednesday were searching for a truck driver who apparently raped a pregnant Chicago woman on a ramp to Illinois Highway 83, investigators said.

The 19-year-old woman, who is five months’ pregnant, told police she was waiting last week for a bus during a rainstorm in the early afternoon at Devon Avenue and Illinois Highway 83.

She told police that the driver of a white semi-tractor trailer truck stopped and offered her a ride, police said.

The woman said the truck driver drove them south on Illinois 83 to 55th Street, then parked in the lot of a grocery in the 300 block of Holmes Street and made an entry in his log book.

The woman told police that the driver then drove to the southbound on-ramp to Illinois 83 and parked on the ramp’s shoulder. Police said the woman told them that the driver pulled her into the truck’s sleeper compartment, hit her head repeatedly with a pole, held a knife to her abdomen and raped her.

The man then stole $20 from the woman, pushed her out of the truck and drove south, investigators said.

Police said the woman stumbled to a nearby apartment complex in the 5600 block of Forest Hill Avenue to ask for help. She was treated at Hinsdale Hospital for a broken nose and minor head injuries, authorities said.
