Several residents voiced opposition last week to the Poplar Creek Library District purchasing a house in their neighborhood.
The district, which recently entered into a contract to buy a house adjacent to the Poplar Creek Library’s rear parking lot, wants to use the property for storage space and administrative offices.
District officials have said they need the extra space at 310 Library Lane to accommodate the increasing number of people using the library at 1405 S. Park Ave. and its branch at 4300 Audrey Lane in Hanover Park.
But some residents argued that the library’s occupancy of the house would increase traffic on the streets and subsequently pose safety risks for children. They also said it would generate more noise, create additional parking problems in front of their homes, and set a precedent for other organizations wishing to move into residences.

A special Village Board meeting will be held Thursday to discuss the district’s proposed use of the house.
