The Bridge Youth and Family Services, a non-profit organization that provides counseling services and prevention and crisis intervention for children and their families, has come up with a fundraising idea to help renovate a larger facility.

The bridge has set up a bridal-type gift registry at various stores, but instead of toasters and microwaves, gift givers can select items such as drywall, two-by-fours, heating and electrical supplies and a host of other construction materials and furnishings.

The service is headquartered at 721 S. Quentin Rd., but plans to move its satellite office to a larger vacant building in the Foxfire Shopping Center, 2070 N. Rand Rd.

To generate money and materials needed to renovate the space, the registry has been established that will allow people to purchase items at four area stores for the construction. The registry began Aug. 26 and runs through Oct. 1.

“It encourages people who feel they can give $5 or $10 to take part in this,” said Carl Arthur, a member of The Bridge’s board of trustees. “That way, the whole community can be involved, if they so choose.”

The Bridge is registered at Builders Square, 1575 N. Rand Rd., Palatine; Menards, 1775 N. Rand Rd., Palatine; Circle Brands Office Supply, 3831 Industrial Ave., Rolling Meadows; and Palatine Ace Hardware, 239-E Northwest Highway, Palatine.
