For the second straight week, Schaumburg played host to a team it was favored to beat and lost.

Hersey defeated Schaumburg 45-21 in a Mid-Suburban League crossover Saturday as quarterback Wayne Jackson threw three touchdown passes and ran for two other scores.

“Our kid (Jackson) did a nice job of it,” said Hersey coach Bruce Glover. “They were going to take the ball from our B-back (Dan Becker). We were prepared to move the ball around.”

“We thought they were keying on Becker because he had a good game last week,” said Jackson. “We have such a good running game that it frees up our passing.”

Schaumburg (0-2) scored first, on junior Kyle Hughes’ 13-yard pass to Notre Dame-bound tight end John Cerasani in the first quarter, and a 14-yard run by Chris Macchione. But the Huskies (2-0) scored more often.

Jackson, who threw a pair of 40-yard TD passes and one of 26 and added TD runs of 13 and three yards, was 9 for 21 for 172 yards. Charles Piszczek caught four passes for 85 yards and two TDs.

Hughes was 13 for 24 for 185 yards but threw three interceptions, all of them leading to second-half Hersey touchdowns.

Maine West 14, Evanston 7: Jeff Luberda’s 62-yard touchdown pass to Hector Castellanos with six seconds left led Maine West (1-1) over No. 19 Evanston (1-1).

Castellanos, a junior, ran for 103 yards on 23 carries and had three receptions for 75 yards and one TD. He played the second half with a bruised hip he received in the third quarter. He ran for 67 yards in the second half.

The winning score came on a flare pass from Luberda (9 for 20 for 129 yards and two interceptions) with Castellanos breaking a tackle and racing down the sideline.

“I thought I was going to get tackled, but I guess one guy got nervous and missed me,” Castellanos said. “Then, nobody was going to catch me.

“They (the Wildkits) thought they were going to blow us out, but at halftime we were only down by seven and we could see that they were kicking themselves. I don’t think this is an upset. We played with a lot of emotion.”

Evanston’s Jean Jourdain gained 155 yards on 25 carries.

New Trier 19, Maine South 6: Dave McClamroch gained 166 yards on 19 carries, including a 76-yard second-quarter touchdown, to pace New Trier (1-1) to the non-conference victory. The Trevians gained 216 yards rushing and 342 overall.

Nick Cataudello caught four passes for 40 yards on Maine South’s (1-1) fourth-quarter touchdown drive, capped by Mike Sieczkowski’s 1-yard run.

Beloit Catholic 10, North Shore Country Day 8: Matt Etringer was all the offense Beloit (1-0) need as he kicked a field goal, rushed for an 11-yard touchdown and added an extra point. North Shore Country Day is 0-2.

Lake Forest Academy 35, Wayland Academy (Wis.) 16: Rodney Allen had 19 carries for 155 yards and three touchdowns for Lake Forest (1-1, 1-0).

Libertyville 28, Antioch 0: Kevin Dickson scored three touchdowns to lead Libertyville (2-0) in the North Suburban Conference. Dickson caught a 4-yard scoring pass from Chris Fulbright and ran 54 yards for a TD in the first quarter and added a 2-yard run in the fourth. Fullbright hit Eric Srykolm for a 34-yard score in the second quarter. Antioch is 1-1.

North Chicago 34, Warren 30: A pair of fourth-quarter fumble-recovery touchdowns, a 25-yarder by Doug Harris and 47 by DeShawn Mitchell, were the difference for North Chicago (2-0) in the North Suburban.

Yotoy McCoy caught two passes for 96 yards, including an 84-yard strike from Jevon Johnson. North Chicago also scored on a 42-yard run by Rashani Landry and Shaun Glass’ 90-yard kickoff return.

Zion-Benton 24, Mundelein 20: Kiki Curry scored on runs of 77 and 6 yards to pace Zion (2-0) in the North Suburban. Mundelein is 0-2.
