The village might allow lighted ball fields in Community Park if the Burr Ridge-Willowbrook Little League agrees to foot a large portion of the bill, trustees said.

Members of the village’s Parks and Recreation Commission suggested that lights would solve the Little League space crunch for the short term at Community Park, said Walter Righton, superintendent of parks and recreation for the village. The Little League should pay for a “substantial” portion of the installation costs, said Dave Moss, Parks and Recreation Commission chairman, “because it is the most economical way.”

In addition, the commission recommended adjusting the village’s co-recreational softball league schedule to allow more Little League games in the early evening.

An initial proposal to expand Community Park-a plan that enraged some residents next to the park-would be too costly to consider as a short-term solution to the space crunch, said Righton. Trustees said they will hold a public hearing about the issue Sept. 28.
