A 10-year police veteran has been promoted to sergeant.

The Fire and Police Commission promoted Patrol Officer James Peer, 42, to the rank of sergeant after a three-month selection process conducted by South Holland-based Resource Management Associates, said Police Chief Tom Reasoner. Eight of the village’s patrol officers took the written exam administered by the firm, Reasoner said, and five passed. Peer was selected after the five candidates underwent individual assessment exercises, an evaluation by Reasoner and a seniority assessment, the chief said.

Peer, who has been the department’s acting shift commander since December, will replace Sgt. Mark Eiting, who left the department in December 1993.
