A city contractor began work this week on the construction of two bike paths on both the east and west sides of town.

On Eastside Drive between High Street and Woodward Avenue, the city is widening the existing concrete sidewalk.

On South Street from Kaneville Road to Southampton Drive, the city is adding 4 feet of pavement on each side of the roadway to provide a path for eastbound and westbound bicyclists.

Traffic in both directions will be remain open, and driveways along the projects will remain accessible, according to Tom Talsma, public works director.

Both projects are expected to be complete by early October, Talsma said.
