Village library patrons will have more breathing room in the future, thanks in part to a $250,000 expansion grant awarded recently.
The grant, one of 26 such awards given to Illinois libraries this year, was handed over to library officials last week by Illinois Secretary of State George Ryan during a groundbreaking ceremony. The ceremony heralded the start of the library’s $3.8 million expansion, which will increase the library’s size by 22,000 square feet.
A severe space crunch at the library, at 800 S. Bartlett Rd., prompted voters last year to approve an addition to the building. Expansion plans include adding a second level to the single-story library.
Construction on the library is expected to begin in August, and near completion in winter 1995, officials said.
