The cable network VH-1 will dedicate itself to aging rockers next week when it renames itself `Stones-TV,’ and features wall-to-wall Rolling Stones programing.
The festivities start at 6 p.m. Sunday when Dan Aykroyd hosts the band’s dress rehearsal.
The Stones’ Voodoo Lounge tour kicks off Monday night at Washington’s RFK Stadium. From 6 to 11 p.m. nightly through Friday, VH-1 will offer classic Stones videos, band interviews and telecasts of their new video, “Love Is Strong.”
VH-1 also reunited the band with filmmaker Albert Maysles, who co-produced the 1970 film “Gimme Shelter,” about the Stones’ infamous Altamont concert. Maysles has created a series of interviews that will air during `Stones-TV,’ and is also co-producing an hour-long documentary for VH-1 to air in September.
`Stones-TV’ will be capped nightly with concert films at 9 p.m. Scheduled to air: “25X5: The Continuing Adventures of the Rolling Stones” (Monday); “Terrifying” (Rolling Stones in Atlantic City) (Tuesday); “Gimme Shelter” (Wednesday), and “Rolling Stones: Tokyo Dome” (Thursday). On August 5, VH-1 will repeat “25X5′ at 8:30 p.m.’ and “Gimme Shelter” at 10:30 p.m.
