Federal agents and local police seized more than $13 million in cocaine on the Northwest Tollway at the Des Plaines Oasis last week.

Seven people were charged in connection with the seizure, which took place midday on July 18, said Dick Johnson, spokesman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Police found 350 kilograms of cocaine in a car they pulled over at the oasis, and seized 35 more kilograms at two locations in Rockford.

One person was arrested at the oasis, four in a Rockford parking lot, and two were arrested in Justice, Johnson said. All seven were charged with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute narcotics, Johnson said.

The cocaine had come from Mexico through Texas and into the Chicago area, and the investigation took three months to complete, Johnson said.
