Residents who borrow traps to catch wild animals to relocate them now must call a private animal relocation company to release or euthanize the animals for them.
This action comes after the Cook County Forest Preserve District announced that wild animals no longer may be released onto forest preserve property, because it is upsetting the natural balance of animals living there, officials said.
For at least 10 years, residents had been allowed to borrow traps from the village’s Health Department to catch wild animals and then release them in the forest preserve.
Residents may still borrow traps from the village, but they may only release the animals onto their own property or call an animal removal company.
