Tim Buckley
Live at the Troubador (Bizarre/Straight) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Recently, Columbia released Jeff Buckley’s EP “Live at Sin-E” to rave reviews and much anticipation of a longer album. Further evidence that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree appears in this recently uncovered concert material, in which Buckley’s father shows the jazz-blues tangent he would follow away from the folk-rock gems of “Goodbye and Hello.” The spectacular range of Tim Buckley’s voice and his impressive-if occasionally excessive-improvisational gifts are on full display in this 1969 recording (he was 22), as well as the growing influence of the drugs that later would kill him. This is an important companion CD to 1990’s live-in-London “Dream Letter” and an essential addition to his previously recorded studio work.
