A federal jury in Milwaukee has awarded two former Palatine residents $785,000 in damages some nine years after they were harassed and one was sexually molested by a police officer in Darien, Wis.
The two men, who were 20 and 21 when they were assaulted, were taking a trip to Madison, Wis., for the 4th of July weekend in 1985, according to their lawyer.
They were stopped by a Darien police officer, who ticketed them for a burned out taillight. The officer, Donald White, also found two open beer cans in the car, attorney Jerry Wiener said.
White offered to void the tickets in exchange for sex acts. The officer handcuffed one of the men and sexually molested the other, Wiener said.

Michael Cieslewicz, an attorney for Darien, did not contest what happened to the Palatine men but argued that White’s actions occurred “outside the scope of his employment.”
