Here’s a way to enjoy that beachy feeling year-round: Dinnerware that looks like a lighthouse–or at least was inspired by the maritime tower’s clean lines and geometric shape.
Designed by contemporary Italian architect Aldo Rossi for Rosenthal’s Studio-Linie, the porcelain collection includes a five-piece place setting plus a full range of accessories.
Rossi, who is known as a Neo-Rationalist (meaning: he believes in simple shapes and undecorated design) had some fun with the accessories. He topped the coffeepot and sugar bowl with dome-like lids, making them look like a lighthouse and a beach hut, respectively.
“It’s the whole idea of creating little landscapes on the table,” explains Jurgen Stephan, marketing director for Rosenthal USA.
II Faro (Italian for lighthouse) comes in three patterns: Solid white ($95 a place setting) a blue-red stripe ($125) and a black-and-white geometric with gold accents ($195). Find the collection at Bloomingdale’s, 900 N. Michigan Ave, and Marshall Field’s stores.
