Rookie pitcher Steve Trachsel probably will miss Sunday’s start against the Reds waiting for the blister on his right hand to heal.
Trachsel (9-6) had to leave Tuesday night’s victory over the Colorado Rockies when a blister he developed on his middle finger opened up.
Trainer John Fierro has been treating the finger and the blister is closed, but there are questions whether it needs to heal a bit longer to prevent it from tearing again.
“He’s still the probable pitcher for Sunday, but right now I’d say he’s an improbable probable,” said manager Tom Trebelhorn.

Trachsel said he thought there was a “50-50 chance” he could pitch Sunday.
Slamming Sammy: Right-fielder Sammy Sosa is moving up the list of home run leaders. He had has 24th of the season-and his fourth in three games-off Cincinnati’s John Roper Friday. Sosa is sixth in the league and 11th in the majors. He also ran his RBI total to 60.
Leaving early: Shortstop Shawon Dunston, who missed the last three games with a tender back, left Friday’s game with a tight left hamstring after seven innings. Cincinnati’s Hal Morris left in the bottom of the seventh after being hit in the head with a throw from catcher Rick Wilkins on a play at second base. The ball caromed off his helmet and Morris experienced some dizziness, but is expected back on Saturday.
