Outfielder Glenallen Hill left Sunday’s game with dehydration and was taken to a hospital to receive intravenous fluids. He was expected to join the team Monday in Colorado, but probably won’t be available to play.

Hill asked to come out of the 3-2 loss to the Reds in the bottom of the ninth inning just seconds after he made a nice catch in left-center field for the second out.

“He was dehydrated and overheated,” said manager Tom Trebelhorn. “They’re replenishing his fluids and trying to get his body temperature down.”

Hill went 2 for 4 to raise his average to .296. He is batted .330 (29 for 88) in his last 25 games.

Tuffy returns: Outfielder Tuffy Rhodes, who is expected to start in Hill’s place in Colorado, was back with the team in Cincinnati, just hours after his wife, Sonja, gave birth to their first child, Karl Rhodes Jr.

Double dipping: Catcher Rick Wilkins has been an offensive disappointment all season. He is tied with Sammy Sosa for the team lead in strikeouts with 77 and is last in batting with a .215 average. But Wilkins has 22 doubles, tops on the team.

Good hands: Broadcaster Ron Santo proved he still has the good hands that helped him win five Gold Gloves during his career. He made a nice grab of a foul ball that came into the radio booth Sunday afternoon.

Gant play yet: Reds GM Jim Bowden says free agent Ron Gant could be available to pinch-hit as early as next month and would be ready to play some in September if his broken leg continues to heal at the current rate.

Steady: With a scoreless inning of work Sunday, reliever Chuck Crim lowered his earned-run average to 3.47-third-best on the team behind Kevin Foster’s 3.15 and closer Randy Myers, who is at 3.34.
