Something’s brewing: Libertyville continues to challenge Long Grove for the title as quaintest little town in Lake County with the latest addition at Mickey Finn’s, for 15 years a comfortable hole-in-the-wall pub downtown. Owners Pat Elmquist and Bill Sugars are finishing an expansion that will take the square footage from 1,200 to 10,000. But the really important part of the project involves the large stainless-steel tubs brought in over the last couple of weeks.

In those tubs will be produced Libertyville’s own beer in the county’s first brew pub, the closest competitors being in the Cook County portion of Barrington and in Kenosha, Wis.

“We should be pouring our own by mid-August,” Sugars said.

But teetotalers won’t be left out; in the fall, Mickey Finn’s plans to produce its own root beer and ginger ale.
