The village might make Linden Avenue a one-way street during school days to ease traffic problems, officials said.
Because only one school bus now serves Holy Trinity School, at Richmond Street and Linden, traffic has increased along Linden when children are dropped off before school and picked up after school.
The increase has further complicated traffic along already busy Richmond and at the Westmont Park District Senior and Community Centers, which lie directly east of Holy Trinity.
Making Linden a one-way, northbound street between Dallas Street and Richmond during the school day could ease the problem, officials said. The proposal calls for vehicles to use both lanes in the street to drop off students, and a crosswalk placed south of the senior center’s driveway would allow students safe access to the school’s sidewalk.
Trustees are expected to vote on the plan later this month. The plan already has the support of the school, the Park District and the Westmont Police Department.
