It just isn’t the same without Harry Caray, but the Cubs had better get used to it.
Caray missed his second road trip of the season when the Cubs traveled to Cincinnati for a four-game series with the Reds this weekend. He hasn’t been in the broadcast booth since June 23, when he collapsed in Miami.
Plans now are for Caray to rejoin the Cubs when they return home a week from Friday-the same day retired second baseman Ryne Sandberg comes back to be inducted into the Walk of Fame.
Caray says he hopes to resume traveling with the Cubs later this month and for the rest of this season. But he plans to only do home games next year.
The .300 club: At the All-Star break, the Cubs have three .300 hitters-none of them regulars. Catcher-infielder Mike Maksudian is hitting .333, but only has 12 at-bats. Backup catcher Mark Parent is hitting .309 in 32 games, and infielder Jose Hernandez has a .300 average in 35 games.
