WEATHERMAN, METEOROLOGIST TO TALK ABOUT THEIR WORK

Schoolchildren can learn about tornadoes and how a television weatherman reports on them during a free program at the Downers Grove Public Library on Thursday evening.

The program will feature presentations by WMAQ-TV weatherman Brant Miller and by Jim Allsopp, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

Allsopp will explain how he tracks thunderstorms and tornadoes, and will talk about safety. Miller will show how he prepares for a newscast.

The program, from 7 to 7:45 p.m., is open to Downers Grove students who are entering Grades 2 and up and have a Downers Grove Public Library card. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Downers Grove Public Library, in conjunction with the children’s summer reading club.
