About 500 people participated in the West Chicago Park District mud volleyball tournament Saturday and Sunday.

Fifty teams competed on 225 tons of mud across five courts at Reed-Keppler Park, said Jeanette McMahon, spokeswoman.

Park officials officials probably will expand the event to six courts next year, McMahon said, because demand was so great that seven teams on waiting lists were unable to participate.

Teams competed in three divisions: junior, back yard, and competitive. The first-place team in the competative division was the 280 Club, led by team captain Tim Seabolt of Glen Ellyn.
