A memorial fence at the Lombard Historical Museum will have to be replaced following a vandalism spree early Monday, a museum spokeswoman said.

The wooden pickets of the fence appeared to be pushed out of place by hand, said Sena G. Krieg, museum spokeswoman. The front floodlight also was smashed.

The electric timer for the floodlights shorted out at about 2 a.m., said Henry Schrader, grounds chairman.

The fence was built in early 1979 as a memorial to Seth C. Mayer, Lombard businessman and community leader, who died in 1977. It was patterned after a fence pictured in a historic photo of the property.

It will cost at least $1,500 to replace the fence, Krieg said. The police have no suspects.
