No one was seriously injured in an apartment fire early Sunday, officials said. The cause of the blaze in a 12-unit apartment building at 1101 S. Park Ave., is under investigation, said Winthrop Harbor Fire Chief Mike Stried. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 2 a.m. and found a vacant apartment ablaze, Stried said. Occupants of the building were safely evacuated, but two Winthrop Harbor police officers were treated for smoke inhalation, he said. Damage was estimated at $45,000.
