The owners of a rifle range have agreed to install bullet-proof ceilings over the remainder of its ranges to eliminate them as possible sources of stray bullets hitting nearby homes.
This action comes about three months after a Cedarwood subdivision woman claimed her home was hit by a stray bullet fired from the Fox Valley Rifle Range, located south of Illinois Highway 62.
Last summer, at least eight Cedarwood homeowners reported finding bullets or bullet fragments on their property. The subdivision is located less than a mile from the range.
The village funded a $3,000 ballistics study earlier this year to determine the source of the ammunition. The report, conducted by Tioga Engineering Co., stated that the bullets may have come from the range, but there was no evidence to support that claim.
The owners will install covers on their 50- and 100-yard ranges. Construction is expected to be complete by summer 1995.
