Strange bird: Nineteenth century artist and naturalist John James Audubon was a strange bird of sorts himself. He left his wife and children behind for long periods of time to search for feathered creatures in the wilderness, sometimes shooting them and painting them quickly before they had time to rot. The drama of his life will be portrayed in a theatrical performance, “A Journey with John James Audubon,” for young audiences at 1:30 p.m. July 12, 15, 16 and 17 in Price Auditorium at the Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S. Michigan Ave.; 312-443-3600.
