The Chain o’ Lakes Fox River Waterway Management Agency has received emergency authorization from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Division of Water Resources to dredge the Fox-Petite Channel, officials said.

The two agencies granted the permit to dredge the channel because of low water levels from this year’s drought.
The channel is blocked with sand and has prompted complaints from boaters, according to a statement from the agency.
Workers began Tuesday clearing sand and other obstructions to a depth of four feet and a width of approximately 80 feet in the channel, said the agency statement said. Work is expected to be completed this weekend.
