Traveling through Westmont’s downtown area just got quicker.

Trustees have agreed to raise the speed limit along Cass Avenue in the village’s downtown area-on Cass between Naperville Road and 55th Street-to 25 m.p.h. from 20 m.p.h. Although the speed increase won’t win motorists any road rallies, it should ease congestion in one of the village’s most heavily traveled areas, officials said.

A result of an additional southbound lane on Cass created by new striping, the increased speed limit comes with the blessings of the Westmont Police Department, said Police Chief Richard Metzger.
