Two juveniles were arrested and charged early Sunday with attempted murder, armed violence, aggravated battery and mob action in connection with the shooting of a Mt. Prospect man, Arlington Heights police said.
The youths, a 16-year-old from Mt. Prospect and a 16-year-old from Elk Grove Village, were being held at the Cook County juvenile detention facility in Chicago, pending a court hearing, police said. A third youth, a 14-year-old from Mt. Prospect, was charged with mob action and unlawful use of a weapon and was released to his parents, police said.
Santiago Marin, 22, was listed in stable condition Sunday at Northwest Community Hospital, officials said. Witnesses said Marin was with friends in a courtyard in the 1100 block of East Algonquin Road when he was approached by a group of youths late Friday, police said.
One of the youths pulled out a gun and shot Marin in the back, police said. The motive for the shooting may have been a quarrel over the use of fireworks, police said.
Police recovered a .22-caliber revolver from a residential area near the scene of the shooting.
