A Wisconsin man has been convicted of homicide and 17 other counts in an alcohol-related motorboat accident on Geneva Lake that killed a 23-year-old Inverness woman last fall, officials said.
Thomas Q. Reed, 26, of Fontana, Wis., was found guilty Tuesday in Walworth County, Wis., on all charges relating to the death of Elizabeth Faul and injuries to seven other people in the Oct. 22 boating accident, according to officials at the county district attorney’s office.
The accident occurred when the boat Reed was operating collided with another boat, causing Reed’s boat to sink. Reed and two other male passengers swam to shore, but Faul drowned. Passengers in the second boat were able to paddle ashore.
Reed’s blood-alcohol level was .17 almost three hours after the accident, well over the legal limit of .10 in Wisconsin, according to the criminal complaint filed against Reed.
