Republican attempts to derail some of their local opposition quickly evaporated Thursday, as the county’s Board of Election Commissioners dismissed GOP objections to three Democratic nominating petitions.
As a result, Democrats will appear on the November ballot in races for the 39th, 41st and 81st Districts of the Illinois House of Representatives.
The board voted 3-0 to throw out the objection to Keith Murphy’s nominating petition. Murphy will now face incumbent Rep. Vincent Persico (R-Glen Ellyn).
Republicans also voluntarily withdrew two other objections, clearing the way for Mary Bednar to face Rep. Mary Lou Cowlishaw (R-Naperville) and for Bill Chalberg to face Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale).
Neither party showed up at the Thursday morning meeting in Wheaton.
Republicans have filed objections in two other districts that include parts of DuPage County: the 49th, where Democrat Robert Banks is slated to oppose Rep. Carole Pankau (R-Roselle); and the 82nd, where Robert Ormsby is challenging Rep. James Meyer (R-Bolingbrook).
The state’s Board of Elections, which hears objections that involve districts in two or more counties, is scheduled to take up both cases Friday in Springfield.
